About KMB

The Korean Society for Microbiology and Biotechnology (KMB), founded in 1973, is the largest academic society in Korea focused on microbiology and biotechnology. With over 10,000 members, including researchers, scientists, students, and industry professionals, KMB serves as a key platform for academic exchange and collaboration across research institutions and the biotechnology sector.

One of KMB’s central activities is the Annual Meeting & International Symposium, held at the end of June each year—with the next meeting scheduled for June 24–26, 2026. This event brings together more than 2,000 participants from Korea and abroad to present research, discuss recent developments, and build international partnerships. KMB also organizes regional conferences, focused symposia, and workshops throughout the year to support ongoing scientific engagement.

The society is structured around 15 specialized divisions, covering areas such as microbial genomics, fermentation and food microbiology, environmental microbiology, microbiome research, and biotechnology commercialization. KMB also publishes two academic journals:
