The International Human Microbiome Consortium (IHMC) is the most prestigious global body of microbiome experts, supported by the Human Microbiome Project (HMP) of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and by the European Commission of the European Union (EU).
Its primary objective is to elucidate the role of the human microbiome in health and disease. The consortium currently includes leading researchers from the United States, Canada, Europe, China, Japan, Australia, South Korea, among other countries.
In 2026, the 11th IHMC Conference will be held in Korea for the first time. The event will bring together top researchers from academia, industry, government, and clinical sectors in the microbiome field. It aims to showcase Korea’s research excellence and potential in the bioindustry on the global stage, while fostering new opportunities for international collaboration.
